304 Stainless Steel tubing combines excellent physical properties with a remarkable resistance to corrosive agents found in automotive exhaust emissions. It is the most cost-effective grade of nonmagnetic stainless tell for general applications, but some professional racing teams use the higher heat-resistant properties of aircraft grade 321 stainless steel.

Burns Stainless Offers:

  • Outside Diameters: 0.75 through 6.0 Inches
  • Thicknesses (Gage): 16 through 20
  • The Most Popular Bends

321 Stainless exhibits superior resistance to fatigue and cracking at elevated temperatures compared to 304, and is highly recommended for turbo- and super-charged applications. 321 is frequently the material of choice for Sprint Cup and Pro Stock fabricators because it can be used more effectively in thinner gages than 304, reducing the weight of a set of headers by 25% or more.

Burns Stainless Offers:

  • Outside Diameters: 1.5 through 4.0 Inches
  • Thicknesses (Gage): 16, 18 and 20

For intake and cooling systems, 6061 aluminum tubing is the most popular and versatile alloy, and is the least expensive of the heat treatable aluminum alloys. Our straight aluminum tubing is sold in the T6 condition, ideal for sawing, machining, sanding, and polishing. All of our bends are initially annealed to the "O" condition, which is necessary for bending. During the bending process, some work hardening in the bend area occurs, and the finished bends are classed as condition "F." The aluminum bends can be polished, but due to the softness of the aluminum, care must be taken not to remove too much material, especially in the area near any welds.

6061 Aluminum is normally not recommended for exhaust systems.
